Area to Consider

Before conducting your digital project, there are several important considerations and questions that you should answer:  

Summary of the project

  • What is my project title? How about its description?  
  • What is the primary purpose of my project?    
  • Please describe the goal, value and impact of the project.  
  • How will the success of the project be measured or identified?  
  • Please list and estimate the timeframe of your project. 

Target audience

  • Who will the audience be for my project?  
  • Who can use or reuse the content?  

Stakeholders in the project

  • Who can provide useful and actual contributions to the project?  
  • Any institutional partners within or outside HKU community?  

Content Management System or publishing platform

  • What Content Management System (CMS) or platform would be the most effective for hosting my project?
  • Digital Repository@HKUL or any other? 

Metadata preparation

  • Appropriate metadata file with information describing the various aspects of my project, is good for helping users locate and access the project.  
  • How will be the description the files, pages, and other content included on the website or CMS? Learn more from Digitization and Digital Preservation.

Digital tools application

  • What types of digital tools will I need beyond the CMS?  
  • Any planning to incorporate visualizations, annotations, maps, timelines, databases, or other types of digital content? 
  • A list of tools and skills can be adopted. Learn more from Tools.  

Space and storage

  • Where will be the suitable place to store the master files and data?  
  • For short-term or long-term preservation purpose? 
  • I need to consider both the copyright issues of others my production and carefully consider if I can reuse the copyrighted works, including text, videos, images, etc.  
  • I have to make sure all concerns have been addressed before publishing content.  

Sustainability and Preservation 

  • Relating to the project’s hosting periods either short-term or long-term, maintenance and update action are required regularly.  

Publicity

  • Consider the promotion and share way for the project with relevant scholars' activities, workshops, exhibition.
